Windows 7 Milestone 1 Build 6.1.6519.1
Published January 22nd, 2008 by Long Zheng

Looks like it didn’t take long for the first external build of Windows 7 to be leaked on to the interwebs. Black fumes were reported escaping Steven Sinofsky’s office earlier this morning after news Microsoft has delivered a Milestone 1 build of the next version of Windows to OEMs spread like wildfire in a dry grassy field on a hot summer’s day.

A member named “kenipnet” on Neowin.net’s forums claims to have and installed this very build on his own desktop and laptop machines, and posted this short review on Neowin. For unknown reasons, it was later deleted by the poster, but fortunately the website administrator “Neobond” has republished a cache version of the original post for all but Sinofsky to see. Of course there’s no way to prove this is true, but the facts appear consistent with ‘other reports’ of what the build contains. Take it with a grain of salt and a cup of tea, donuts sold separately.

You gloss over that as though it's just a nuisance for some people, but I'm one of those for whom Vista is basically just something to look at but not use. Neither my printers nor scanners work with it. For me, it's basically good for surfing the net and ocasionally being able to play a vid online that I can't play in x64 but that's about it.

Personally we can't take any of this information as truth until one of two things happen.

Microsoft Confirms, or shows Build off (i.e. at WinHEC, but that's not till fall)
Or it is leaked to the torrent sites.

Because they're are no screenshots available, this could all just be make believe based on some information that supposedly has leaked. Personally M1 from Vista wasn't that far ahead of the game, so I would doubt that would have that much advancements. Even at 4074, Longhorn hadn't changed much (and that was 1474 builds past XP SP1)

Would it be possible that Windows 7 UI engine will be HTML based? Considering that the core has a simple internal web server (I suppose).

If not, then that's good. So if it's going to be in native 3D, I hope it would look like the Xbox interface. smile
