I've got no idea Daniel. I'd say check the description and the size of the ISO. Vista x64 slipstreamed should be quite a large file of 3 GB or so.

I took a look over at TechNet (I am not a subscriber) so everything is grayed out, C/P works tho

I could see some info for the integrated Vista x64 + SP1, is this the one?

I think this is probably the one I downloaded the second time from Technet and then burned to disc.
I think my problem originated with the first disc I burned, or actually the way I burned it. I burned it at MAX speed instead of at 4X.
At any rate I reinstalled Vista Ultimate w/SP1, which took less time to do than it took to download and try to install SP1 update by itself, and it seems to doing fine.

My main problem in some PC's I tried to install it was that it need some more free space in the system partition that was not available. Mainly it needed about 8gb more in a recent attempted installation and it failed because I couldn't provide more free space. Is there any workaround for this ?

The only thing I can think of that may help George, is to disable the page file and to disable creating restore points and delete all current restore restore points. Come to think of it, SP1 will probably create a restore point of it's own during setup.

You could also try plugging in a USB external drive with at least 8 Gb available on it so that perhaps SP1 unpacks there and places it's temp file on the USB drive.

I have done the restore points and page file things but didn't help. I will also try the USB trick. Strange enough I couldn't get the service pack to show me the parameters as I could do with XP - 2003 Service Packs.

As far as I know, there is no workaround for this, George --- unless you can somehow get your hands on CAB-based Vista installation media.

The problem is that WIM is an image-based installation format, so that it needs to copy an entirely new OS image into the free space, and to expand it, and then to update it from your existing OS files.

It is therefore wise to ensure large amounts of free space in one's Vista setup for future upgradeability reasons --- and also to help Vista run faster, because HDD speed will be improved in a system partition containing a proper amount of empty space
