i have real temp running and it is showing my CPU speed going from 3GHz to 2GHZ when idle ...
what do i need to look for to keep my CPU at 3GHz all the time?

im running an ASUS maximus 2 board with and E8400

i checked cpu-z and it would show 3GHz at multi 9 and then like 2GHZ at multi 6 when idle ... and as i am typing this i saw it drop to 1GHz ....

i also disabled speedstep / c1e in BIOS .... any other ideas?

I think your board has EPU, if it does, maybe disabling it in the bios may help

I know, what you mean, my board is like that too. If I had hair this board would have made me sn*tch my head bald. I have never seen so many setting in a bios to change.
