that is the one that is on my c drive of windows vista...

it wont let me open the one from xp for some reason.

do i make the notepad file paste that and change partition to 2 and then save it as boot.ini

Need you to post an image of your disk management screen.
Left click the start button
right click Computer
Left click Disk Management
Then post the image, the guide below will help you

i think i have a corupt os from shrinking partition to install vista.

What program did you use to shrink the drive to get your partition?

paragon partition magic.

but when i finished before i installed vista i booted into xp just incase and it worked fine. but after install of vista it wasnt working.

If I'm not mistaken you need to change your boot.ini to partition(2) in both instances.

Change the boot.ini file to point to the second partition e.g change the (1) to a (2) then save it, it it will let you save it to the XP partition save it there as well, it not save it at least to the Vista partition and reboot.
