after reinstalling my system {winxp} and updated it i can no longer restart or shut it down. to shut if off i have to pull the plug.

Hi Michael, have you checked your power options in Control Panel? I've never had the issue after having reformatted many times. Oh, also check your BIOS to make sure that ACPI is enabled.

my problem was caused by vistamizer, which i installed to change the look of win xp.
uninstalled vistamizer and problem solved

Hahaha, was I ever off base! I never use these Vista XP skinners, there's just too much grief associated with them and you just put another nail in the already over nailed coffin of this type of garbage. Glad you got it fixed!
