I've got two suggestions.
1) Check the version of the Realtek driver you have loaded right now and compare it to the one you DL'd to fix the problem. Are they the same?

2) Check the Realtek Audio Manager. Select the Speaker tab, then the default format tab, set it to default, then choose DVD Format. It should be 24 bit 48,000Hz (At least I have mine set like that.)
You might even want to play with those settings to see if you can hear a difference.

I'm not sure how or why it would revert back, especially if you added nothing and didn't do a system restore.

You may have to re update the driver again. And hope it sticks this time.

At this point, I'm really just guessing.
There is a third thing that might help.
For some sound distortion problems, it seems like uninstalling the IDE drivers (in Device manager) and rebooting so that they reinstall, sometimes helps.

my driver has reverted back to the old, I haven't got a clue how or why, but I'm redownloading the new one again and will try that one more time.

Take a look in Control Panel>Programs and Features.
If the older driver is showing there, uninstall it.
That will prevent it from reinstalling.
You might also, want to look in the Realtek folder and delete it (it's not installed, so it may not show in Programs) But make sure it is the older one you are deleting.
