Reader Greg had his first run in with the notorious "no ice" fee, something we've been hearing about more and more lately. This time the culprit was McDonald's and they got around the "Ok, fine. I'll just have one cube of ice" tactic with a sign that specified a "FULL" cup of ice. Clever, McDonald's. Very. Clever.

I don't enjoy my cold drinks like coke watered down by a glass full of ice either.

Wow, I don't think that's legal. Not to mention that at Wendy's, KFC, Taco Bell, and Burger King (all locations near me, at any rate) you pay for the cup and can fill it up as many times as you want from a fountain in the seating area.

Some of the McDonalds near me are like that too, that you can refill your own cup, not all but some.

What I don't get is that you get free refills, but why do you have to pay more for no ice? The ice is probably the most expensive part of the entire drink if you think about it. The soda itself is relatively cheap with the syrup being the most expensive part of the mixture. with the ice, you have to pay for the water and the electricity to freeze it and keep it cold. I don't eat fast food much at all anymore, but I think someone should talk some sense into them about the policy. What you should do is take the drink with ice, then just dump out half of the soda and ice into the trash can and get a refill.
