Hi

I just wanted to know how much space an XP Professional SP2 would take up on a 5GB hard drive partition in a multi-boot format.

Thanks for any replys.

MS says the bare minimum is 1.5 GB, so 5GB is enough space for an XP install, but will leave little space for anything else.

How big is the harddrive you are trying to install XP to?

Well basically, it will be around 5.37 GB because I will have freed up this unpartitioned space deleting my EISA configuration (I no longer need it as I have created a recovery disk). Also i wanted to shrink my volume on Vista but it is only allowing 140MB (don't know how to increase this amount beyond 140MB), this is the reason why i want to get rid of the EISA configuration. I want XP because I have been given several portable applications which only work with XP and these are important to me, So what space will be left after an XP install on a 5.37 partition?

10 GB would be the minimum recommendable size for an XP setup, but I personally wouldn't use less than 20 GB.

Given that you can shrink the Vista partition somewhat, I would assume that this would create some free space at the end of the drive ?

This should let you at least test your XP installation project - bearing in mind that some extra steps may be required to install XP on a Vista-era laptop, given that required SATA drivers may or may not be present in your XP installation media.
