Hi All,
Earlier I made dual boot of XP and Vista with the help of VBP..it was working just fine. But my XP got infected and I had to format the XP drive and make a clean install of XP..I used the VBP to get the dual boot(my laptop came vista pre-installed with no vista dvd)..but XP is not working as it throws the following error on the black screen with following information on it:

“Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings and click Next.
3. Click Repair your computer.

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File:\NTLDR

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.”

But plz note that XP is working just fine if,I load the legacy boot loader by vbp while in vista, however in that case the machine directly boots into xp after restsrting..

Thanx in advance ..

Regards,
Sam

Thanx a lot for the help..anyways,Vista is working fine in the dual boot, where XP is throwing the above mentioned error.Again, while in Vista if we install the "Legacy Boot Loader" through VBP,then after a reboot it's entering directly into XP and it's working fine that time.

The discussion thread mentioned by u couldn't help me out. I have copied all the 3 files(NTLDR,Ntdetect.com,Boot.ini in both the C and D drives where Vista and XP are installed ).

Plz help me !!
Awaiting cooperation.

Regards,
Sam

I've again installed a fresh copy of XP and tried a dual boot through VBP...But to no luck..the same prob persists,Vista working but XP throwing the same error as said earlier. Boot.ini is by default present in drive C only(where Vista is installed),copying it to drive E (XP) won't help.I have renamed my drives as clearly as "Vista"(C),"XP"(E) etc..so the possibility of messing up with drives can be ruled out..
Below plz find my boot.ini--
Waiting for help!

Earlier there were only 2 drives in my HP-Compaq laptop-->
C: >> Vista installed in this
D: >> HP Recovery drive for Vista

I create a new drive E: from C: to get XP installed in that.As I told,XP was running fine also before I formatted the drive for XP and then reinstalled only to get puzzled in such a situation. Now the sitiuation is like below--

C-- VISTA
D-- Recovery drive..
E-- XP

Hope this little info will help..

regards,
Sam

To check your Boot.ini we also need a screenshot of your Computer Management, showing the drives & partitions.
