Even though the directx 9 bundled with Longhorn recognizes it as Win XP Pro(run dxdiag in the run box) you cannot install any other version of directx in Longhorn using compatibility mode.Don't try to install directx 9.0b in Longhorn you cannot install it and you may damage it if you try.The system.dll file may disappear.Don't use Longhorn to play games. This is my advice.

Theres a solution to this (I found it):

1. Install every .inf from Halo CD in 9.0b directory. You will get Logo Testing errors but it doesnt matter.

2. Cut d3d9.dll from /system32 somewhere else. Now copy the d3d9.dll into /system32.

Now Halo will run fine!
