A free alternative to WinZip


File compression is a popular way of making files smaller so they can be emailed or downloaded more quickly. 7-Zip has its own format but it can create and read all of the common formats. The main program window displays the files on your PC, with compressed files appearing as folders. From here you can view and extract files. 7-Zip integrates itself into the right click menu in Windows Explorer. It is free to use but a registration fee of $20 entitles you to email support.
