There are a number of DVD players on the market today. As recently as last week Wal-Mart was selling out of a $40 model. While the only true difference between DVD players nowadays is price, the portable models are still up there in price. Of course, the majority of them do include a screen, but what if you want to get an affordable, portable DVD player? Does such a thing exist? Enter Merconnet's NextBase MDV1.

The player itself is exactly that--a player. The opposite of the majority of the portable DVD players on the market, this one doesn't come with a screen to watch the DVDs. Instead, it's about the size of a standard portable CD player. The biggest difference, though, is that not only will it play CDs, but also DVDs, VCDs, MP3s, and JPEGs. To test this out I brought it out on a field test.
