I noticed when i was changing some of the stuff in my boot.ini file that the longhorn line reads:

WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /FASTDETECT /DETECTHAL

now the HAL or Hardware Abstract Layer, if im correct is being told to detect hardware every time LH is loaded. about the only reasoning i can see is that they want it to be easier to take a harddrive and put it into a new system and it detect everything at startup so you have less of a chance of crashing. im curious to see what you guys think.

thats funny...mine doesnt say anything like that.... i just have the /FASTDETECT, just like xp has, cept it points to hda2 while XP points to hda1..I wonder what the difference is between our installs is..

FAST/DETECT bootloader makes more sense than thatyour theory.

not /fastdetect silly, thats there too. but today i removed that reference (/HALDETECT) and it started up a HELL of alot faster. and as far as my theory, think about it, its instructing the HAL to detect the hardware and system load. now doesnt that make sense that you would be able to place the harddrive in another machine and boot? has anyone ever tried that with a M$ OS b4? its crazy! but today im gonna try it to see what happens, ill let you all know what happens.
