This isn't so much of a problem as some advice before i start breaking things. I have xp as my primary install with all my software already stored on the same partition. Now i have LH on a different partition but want all the same software available for LH. I tried to make shortcuts to MS Office 2003 but it says that it hasnt been configured for the os. Will this happen with all software or should i make a double installation of all software. Havea 3rd partition for my software for the os's to share or try to link into the xp partition. Sorry for the lengthy post guys...cheerz

it should happen with all software. The main reason is because when you install programs, they do more than just existing on your hard drive... they exist in your system registry. the error you got simply means the program doesn't exist in the registry. The registry holds program version numbers, and other bunch of stuff.

comp's right registry also holds all the files needed and where they are located to run these programs. The only one's that will run are standalones that install and run without needing the registry.

Hey i suppose thats the sacrafice you run with dual operating systems. especially when one is an alpha release. i'll be off the net for a while while i'm away on course anyway so i'll use Longhorn as my primary os. When the next release comes out is it a case of a complete reinstall?

Yes it is...sorry about that...I'm sure that's not the answer you wanted to hear.

Hey it doesn't matter. Its all experience. Theres nothing quite as therapeutic as formatting and doing a complete reinstall. Theres never anything important on my drives anyway apart from my favourites

Heh, I've got 120GB on two drives, three OS's, soon 4, and I'm running out of room and don't have the luxury of slash and burn. Like they always say, you can never have enough space.

Yeah, My Desktop PC is down at the minute so im using the laptop for all this playing with Longhorn. I'm not a big application user anyway. The USB HDD is probably one of the best investments ive made though. Good to have software with you but not taking up your precious space.
