Use an XP cd and boot from it. Start the setup and choose recovery console when the option appears. Your going to use 3 commands bootcfg.exe fixboot.exe and fixmbr.exe

Look here for commands and Console overview
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/default.asp?url=/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/recovery_console_cmds.asp

To use Win98 and LH you must have a filesystem they both can see: FAT16 and FAT32.

When you boot into the RecoveryConsole log into the LH install and do your work from there. If your win98 is using any compression utilites they wont work in LH.

maybe this might be even easier.....I'm not in front my my longhorn system right now but I think its pretty much the same for all Win installs...at least I can get you in the right area to look...

Step 1: Right click on "My Computer" and select properties
Step 2: (this is where it get is iffy, since I'm not in front of the system hmmm ) Select the "Advanced" tab
Step 3: Click "Startup and Recovery"
Step 4: At the top there should a section called "System startup" there should be a drop down menu listing the default operating system, select what ever one you want. Below that there is a check box that says "Display list of operating systems for -blah- seconds" The -blah- is what ever number you put in, or has there by default (i think the default is like 30 seconds). Check that box and hit okay, then you will probably have to reboot. When your POST (the deal that checks your mem, hd's etc) is done it should give you a choice between Win98 and WinLH...

Hopefully this might be easier (if it actually works) then trying to install all that 3rd party stuff and do all the file edits and stuffs.

cool

Windows 98 must be installed first, this is because of the different boot loaders. Its recommeneded installing the OSs by their release order,
Win98, then XP, then LH.
The primary drive (C) regardless of its file system must be FAT32 or FAT so that it can be accessed by DOS. If you choose a different drive, you still need (C) to be FAT or FAT32.
If you installed Windows XP first and installed Win98 later on, instert the XP CD.
Goto the recovery console,
it asks you which windows installation you want to go into
(1 should do it. Might not be 1, in that case if you installed XP last or second. Second- 2, last- 3)
It asks you for an admin password, none if you have home.
Type in fixboot
reboot
