I personally believe that hunting animals is cruel, unless it's for food. I don't mean this in a cynical way, but what fun can you possibly get from killing a living creature with so much majestic beauty, just to hang its head up on a wall? (Sorry if that sounds stereotypical of hunters.) However, that's just my opinion.

Actually, if it werent for us hunters there wouldnt be ANY deer left. We started back in the early 1900's learning to harvest only certain deer and managing different herds in different areas, and from a population of only about 300 whitetail deer, it has grown to 20,000,000 yes thats million.
And maybe you could read the attached article and learn a little bit about letting animls live and not killing them. smilenod

I too have hunted all my life. Huntnsinme, right on!!! Unfortunately far too few people understand the real facts. I started out hunting deer many years ago with shotgun/rifled slug, in Ill where I live...rifles are not legal. But for the last many years I've used bow & arrow. Bow hunting deer is a great enjoyment of mine. I certainty don't shoot at every deer I see. Many are out of range, most I don't wish to harvest (kill). But I get many hours of enjoyment out of bow hunting. Any hunter who is a real sportsman will tell you it's not about killing deer, or how big of a buck you got, or how many. And if they do, I would not care to associate with them. But rather it's more the understanding and enjoyment of nature. But unfortunately for me, I've been unable to bow hunt for the last 2 years due to a shoulder injury. But I had it repaired 2 weeks ago (torn rotator cuff). But I probably won't be able to draw my bow this season. So next year I'll be able, at long last, to bow hunt again.

My 2 sons & I usually put 8 - 12 deer in the freezer each year. And we butcher our deer and I also make the best deer summer sausage you'll ever taste. My whole family loves to eat veninison. It's quite delicious!

i did for a couple years but wen to college and now i don't have time (although i might start again after college). in PA, the game commision says there are more deer than ever, but it's not true, at least in my area. my grandpa used to let 3 or 4 walk past before shooting one, but anymore, your lucky to see 4 deer in a day so the population has definitly gone down. he doesn't see as many deer anymore either, but deer meat is very good.

MMM... VENISON! Even better than COW!

Despite my pacifistic (yeah, even though I love to fight) and general benevolent-to-animals nature, I can't stay away from meat. I probably wouldn't hunt the deer myself, but I'd certainly let someone else do it for me if I can get some venison.

Of course, here in PA, you can hunt deer just by driving too fast up the road.

Aren't any deer in my part of Norway, Except reindeer, which is semi-domesticated by the Saamis, i.e. not "huntable". In southern parts of the country there are wild reindeer and also red deer.
For this fall I applied for a ticket on Moose and wild reindeer, I got Moose. It'l be the first big game hunt for me. Have been hunting small game for just over twenty years; got my first grouse with a .22 when I was seven. I was sold. It's been many since, and lots of other small game, and a few politically uncorrect sealhunts recently.
