my harddrives usually sit on about 40 degrees. you can get a program called Helexis Drive Health and it gives you alot of information about your harddrives aswell as monitoring the tempriture

I can truthfully say, that I've been using computers since the late 70's, I've never added extra cooling and I've never had a harddrive run hot. For that matter, I've been overclocking for some time and with no more than a couple of extra case fans, I've never had anything run hot. (knock on wood...LOL)

Bob, what speed and size is your hd. I think the faster ones and larger ones heat up alot faster, since mine gets real hot after awhile.

Where can I get some good info on overclocking? I read that a lot in the forums but have never really done it. If I do overclock, I want to install a water cooling system. I don't know, call me crazy.

I’m running a P4 2.66Ghz

You can also look at the fans that fit into a slot and exhaust out the rear of the system...this improves your air-flow...thus keeping all of the temps down. If your Dell is like mine...there are plenty of open slots available...so no modding on the case is needed.
