I have been away from Linux since 1999 for various reasons.
On the weekend I will install Mandrake 9.0 .
I used to have big problems configuring my high speed internet connection (cable). Off course the provider does not support Linux.
Are there any chenges made with the recent Kernel that will make the configuration easier??

Configuring a Cable Modem in Red Hat is super easy, so I presume it'll be nearly as simple, if not more so, in Mandrake 9. If I'm right, Mandrake 8.1 had a confiuration wizard in it.

You will need to conect your cable modem to the pc via ethernet and depending on your provider either set tcp/ip up as DHCP or with the static IP they gave.

Well that's the problem. My provider refuses to give me a static IP
and to tell you the truth that was the main reason I had to go back to Windows. (plus the games  )

Linux does support DHCP. Most distros ask if you want to use DHCP at the end of the install, if they've recognized your Ethernet card. It's also known as bootc or something...

Try 'netconfig' or if you are highly motivated, 'ifconfig'

Let me know.
