When does this error occur? When you click on the partition under "My Computer" or when you try to access files?

Ironically I am having probably an identical problem. Except my Windows partiton is not realy working right now. I am running Linux, and I am able to use my files on my other partitons without problems. I can't help you yet because I have not fixed my problem. Next week I am going to put in another hard drive, salvage my files, then do a low lever format so see if it fixes the problems. You can also right click on the drive and scan it for errors and see if it picks up anything. As for now, that's the best that I can do.

Make sure you are up to date with the all the service packs.

Try the disk manager too.

i would suggest running chkdsk to see if there is something wrong with the disk. you could try to make sure that all of your cables are plugged in the whole way. also, is it every file or just certain one's that won't open.
welcome to pronet

Start>run>type in chkdks /r in the command prompt and it will tell you it will be run at reboot then reboot. This is your best bet as a first try to recover it.
