Hi,

I have been reading about the new technology coming out of Sony Crop regarding the Data Storage on optical discs using a new laser technology known as "Blu-Ray" Discs. I have heard about this couple of years back and how it will revoltionise the way we manage our data.

Hats off to Sony.. notworthy thumbsup

the following link will definitely help understand the technology in a very simple way

It's all about the Benjamin'$ Word on the street is that they are going to be the fast money makers for a few years. On the lighter side, I will be able to afford DVD-RW cause…price will go down.

Thanks for the info.

I doubt most of us are going to be able to afford it even a few years from now, even if the price of the burner drop by half it's still going to be more than a thousand dollars.

While the technology is superb it is just not practical yet. You can buy a massive array of hardrives for less than it costs to get this set up. For that matter you can build another machine and still have money left over.

Exactly, I'd rather spent $200 dollars on a 120g external hard drive then spend 15 times more on a blu laser dvd burner.

Another thing down this lane that I dont understand is there are people still heavily into the zip disk market. CD's hold more data and are far cheaper than zip disks but they still sell them by the mounds, go figure.

Yes Rob , indeed. CDs hold more data but zip drives are by far more compatible with *nix machines.

Good point George. Most of the people I see buying them are running windows and insist they are the best for archiving files. IMO if you want them zipped, well zip them then put them on a CD!
