before dropping it, i think i would try shaking it really hard and see if that does anything. at least if something comes lose while shaking it, the case and other components won't be cracked or anything. dropping it would definitely be a last resort.

what's the sound like?
is the sound like a motor slowing down? or it crashed something?
if your problem meet with the above 2 kind of sound, i think you should start digging a hole for the drive. JK
if there are important data inside, there are
some ppl who can retrieve data from your faulty drive.

uhh that happend to my storage hdd, when i was formating it made some sound, then the format said drive not detected. i restrated my comp and the bios didnt detect it. so u might as well throw it away nothing u can do now will make it work, im certain. If you can make it work then i'm the gayest man alive....not happening
