huh got a little bit further this time - got he CD rom to spin up , and it came up with this error : cmos/gpnv checksum bad

i rebooted it with a new flash upgrade disk inserted - which actually loaded succesfully , i rebooted once more - and now i get no screen again and the floppy does not work - i tried resetting the cmos , but its still the same ( i upgraded the flash with just the mobo , ram , chip , G-card , floppy and one CD rom )

also noticed the monitor light sometimes flicks on and off althoug i still get a blank screen on both monitors.

any ideas ?

Don't start throwing things in the rubbish bin just yet...smile
Have you checked the state of the CMOS battery? It may be on its way out or, since the system go jostled around a bit, it may not be seated correctly in its socket. Of course, some motherboards have the battery soldered in.

Also, as in one of your previous posts, if the PSU fluctuates it may not be noticeable with a volt-meter. How are you checking the PSU outputs? Are you checking it under load (i.e. with everything attached)? What is the range of fluctuations?....
Questions, questions, questions.....

The other thing is that you will always be able to sell it on ebay. I've actually sold a broken power supply on my xbox for $20.

ok - the cmos battery is now new , and so is the PSU , and its still the same , i checked the voltage with the onboard BIOS check ( when i actually got it to go to the bios ) and the fluctuations are about +/- 0.05 v
which i think is hardly any cause for concern huh

i've resigned to the fact that i might need a new mobo - which i am hoping to get a new MSI 848p neo - on monday ( are they any good ? )

so at least that will either fix it or narrow down the suspects tongue

+/- 0.05 v is well within reason. Bummer, looks like some extra $$$ need to be spent. Don't know the MSI 848p, but there are plenty of folks on this forum who have experience with a wide range of motherboards. Check www.newegg.com for some good deals.
