DON'T GET SCAMMED!!!

You may have heard of something called phishing. There is one technique which is used on message boards like this one, and we want to WARN you about it so that you don't get victimized. MySpace users will probably know all about this.

Here is how it works. A scammer creates a page that looks exactly like PROnet's login page, where you would normally enter your ID and password. He then puts a code somewhere on the site that, when you click it, takes you to that page. From your point of view, it looks as if you have suddenly been logged out. After all, you clicked something and now you're looking at what looks like the login page. Now you enter your ID and password, thinking that it will log you back in. WRONG!!! What has just happened is that he stole your ID and password. You were never actually logged off. You were simply REDIRECTED to a page that looked like the login page.

Then he can enter your profile and do whatever he wants. He can even change your sig. In fact, what these scammers often do is steal your ID and password, then go into your profile, and put the code that redirects people to the fake page into YOUR SIG. Then people who come to your REAL posts may get redirected, so it works like a virus.

FIRST of all, if you ever click anywhere on the site and suddenly see what looks like the login page, DO NOT enter any information. The best thing to do is CLOSE your browser or tab and just come back to PROnet the way you normally would.

NEXT, if this DOES happen to you, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD IMMEDIATELY! Then CHECK YOUR SIG code to make sure that there is nothing there that you didn't put there.

NEXT, CHECK YOUR PROFILE on a regular basis and make sure that nothing has been changed. CHECK YOUR SIG code to make sure that there is nothing there that you didn't put there. Also, to be safe, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD on a regular basis.

HOW CAN I TELL IF IT'S THE REAL LOGIN PAGE OR NOT?

It's easy. LOOK AT THE URL IN THE ADDRESS BAR. Here is the FAKE login page:

Here is the REAL login page:

It says pronetworks.org.

Yes. It just happened. That's why we want to warn everyone, and have you check your profiles and sig codes. It would also be a good idea to change your password anyway. smilenod

These schemes are so easy to fall for too. Even folks who know what they are looking for can be fooled. I'd say nearly half our staff (online at the time of the last attack) was compromised.

If you are EVER logged out immediately or appear to be logged out immediately when surfing PRO, pay VERY close attention to the URL as Larry said. If you want to be extra safe... you can always surf PRO through our secure connection:

It's to keep your login info safe from prying eyes and then you get the normal http pages after you are logged on.
