OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
An FAQ is located at the bottom of this post!!

JOIN
Starting October 5, 2007 PROnetworks will begin accepting users for accounts on the PROblogs website. To become and remain eligible for an account you must apply for a blog via the link at the bottom of this post, be accepted into the program, and blog regularly.

If you already blog at your own site, great, just inform us of that on the application and we'll work out the details as an affiliation. You can still post your content here, and in all likelihood, receive a lot more views due to our high traffic volume. You will be permitted to link to your own blog, so long as you link back to your post at PRO.

BLOG
Once you are a account holder at PROblogs you are free to write about anything you wish, so long as it abides the PROnetworks terms of service. We encourage users to Blog about anything they wish, especially in regards to technology related issues and/or thoughts they have on the technology market. Once a week we'll select the best blog entry to be displayed on the front page of PROnetworks.

BENEFITS
Beyond having your opinions and thoughts heard by the masses, once a month the PRObloggers will be evaluated by a 3-member panel composed of random Management here at PROnetworks. The individual deemed to be the best PROblogger (based on both the number of entries and especially the quality of content posted) will be declared the PROblogger of the month. This individual will receive a complementary 'No-Ads' subscription to the site and be featured on the main page of PROnetworks.

FAQ
-So what is a blog anyway?
--Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal of sorts that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author; in this case, YOU!

-Why would anyone care what I have to say?
--Blogging has become one of the most popular activities online. If you've ever had a rant, wanted to get on a soapbox, or just had something you wanted to get off your chest... now's your chance. Whether you blog one entry or a thousand, we welcome you to come blog with us and share your thoughts with the world. You might just be surprised how many people respond to your entries.

-Why blog with PROnetworks?
--Well, it's simple. PROnetworks offers a unique opportunity for new and old bloggers alike. For one we're a giant online community with millions of visitors each month. That adds up to A LOT of exposure for your blog. Plus we have the all-in-one approach of being able to help users with support (even on how to get started blogging if they like) plus our online community (where we discuss topics far and wide).

-I already have a blog, isn't that a conflict of interest?
--Nope. PROnetworks wants to hear the thoughts of our members, and if you already have your own blog, no problem. We'll work out a way for you to post your content at our blog (in addition to your own of course), plus we'll provide a link to your blog from our own. So you'll gain a lot of exposure and in return we only ask you link to our own blog from your site. Simple and easy, a win-win.

-Can I podcast?
--Absolutely! We're still working out all the details, but soon enough we'll be able to put you on iTunes as a featured Podcaster of PROnetworks. Please let us know if you'd be interested in Podcasting in addition to blogging or just standalone.

Terms:
PROblogs are subject to the same terms of use as PROnetworks Technology. PROnetworks reserves the right to edit out and/or remove illegal or otherwise controversial material from its websites. Abuse of blog membership & publishing may result in removal of your account privileges.

This blog is completely separate from our old blog. I will add that to the FAQ tonight.

Also, you must use your real email address during the application. We also ask you please use either your real First name and last initial, or last name and first initial for your display name. Your forum user name can remain your alias of course.

Thanks

Quick update. For everyone who's applied, I'll work on getting your accounts set up this afternoon or tomorrow at the very latest.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts... or reading them. Either one wink

Oh, and a summary of the roles. Most of you will be Authors who blog and write regularly. New comers will be contributors until they've got a few under their belts. A select group of PRO staff will be the Editors. Everyone else who comments, etc will be subscribers.

* Editor - Somebody who can publish posts, manage posts as well as manage other people's posts, etc.
* Author - Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts
* Contributor - Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish posts
* Subscriber - Somebody who can read comments/comment/receive news letters, etc.
