this is a good step john, something else if possible a blinking task bar button for the chat screen or something to notify us when someone just came or replied a msg.

what do you think?

I think I might be able to work something out that could go at the top of the page, we'll see.

There is also a feed on the homepage (about half way down on the right) that allows users to view the chat activity.

this button is really nice, but I think a button like "active/inactive" based on logged in members is better
and this site should be alive 24/7 don't you agree?

Chat will be officially open for a little while if anyone's online now and wants to join us.

The chat technically will be open 24/7 - but we will "officially" open and close it during various hours. Keep an eye out for the buttons at the top of the page.
