OK, I set some people up with a wireless print server today but one of their computers was a Mac. The printer is a Canon Pixma MP830. Basically, when I just plugged the printer into the computer via USB it was fine. The drivers were installed and it printed fine. However, when I set up the network printer and went to select what printer model it was, the MP830 was not listed. I got it working with some S800 drivers (maybe something else similar) but when it prints it's really washed out. I don't have enough experience with Macs to figure out how to get the MP830 into that list of available printer models so that I can set up the network printer. Anyone have some advice?

I have the Pixma MP700 and it has special drivers for Mac and PC to utilize the network printing. You should be able to download them from Canon's site or install them from the CD that comes with the printer. I wish the MP830 was out when my old printer died as it combined features from the two models below it together, but sadly, it just came out recently and I needed a printer in the fall.

Don't see any special drivers on the OSX driver page sad I just didn't know if there was something I was missing like a way to manually add the driver file... I just don't know how those .pkg files work or what mac driver files look like or how to add them if I was able to find them.

Basically, the .pkg files are installers, similar to an exe or msi on windows. Usually they're distributed in the disk image files or on a cd. The MP830 product page download section has drivers for the MP830 for OS X, have you tried downloading and installing them? It may add the printer to the list of available models. The reason it probably wasn't in the list previously is that the printer is so new and Apple hasn't had a chance to put in support for it.
