I find this a little easier and faster than going into control panel, etc. etc.

1) Open any Explorer window (e.g. Go into the Start menu and choose Computer).

2) Click on the Organize button choose Folder and Search Options.

3) In the Folder Options window, under the view tab, I generally change: Show hidden files and folders and Hide protected operating system files. Place a check in the box for Show hidden files and folders and remove the one in Hide protected operating system files.

4) If you choose to show protected operating system files, you’ll get a confirmation window asking if you’re sure about it. Click yes.
