I purchased a DL140 server and am currently trying to install Windows 2003 server, I have already setup the RAID configuration its on RAID0 and whenever i load the CD which has the OS it gives me an error that

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer. Make sure hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-suppplied diagnostic or setup program
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup press F3"

While powering on the machine it shows that it has detected the hard drives and their RAID controller.

What could be wrong please help am stuck for the past 5 days

Regards

You'll need to find the drivers for the RAID controller on the HP website, download them, copy them to a floppy disk and then press F6 at the start of the Windows setup procedure (when prompted) to load them before Windows setup can identify the RAID array.

Instructions from HP Website...

Quote:
Installation:
If you have not already done so, copy all of the extracted Compaq Smart Array 5300 Controller Driver files to a disk which we will refer to as the Driver Disk.

Insert the Windows 2000/Server 2003 CD to begin the installation process. If prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

When Windows 2000/Server 2003 Setup displays the message "Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver”, press "F6".

When Windows 2000/Server 2003 Setup displays the message "Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter," press "S" to specify an addition device.

Insert the disk with the extracted Compaq Smart Array 5300 Controller Driver files and press ENTER.

Select the controller from the list displayed and press ENTER.

Press Enter and continue the installation of Windows 2000/Server 2003.

Edit - Here's a link to the page that contains the drivers for a standard DL140. You might need the ones for the G2 or G3 version, instead, depending on the exact model of the machine.

You've definitely copied the drivers to a floppy disk and loaded them when prompted by the F6 option at the start of Setup? The only reason I'm asking is because you'd only be getting that error message if Windows Setup doesn't have the drivers required for the RAID controller and, therefore, can't "see" the drives.

As there's nothing, currently, installed on the system, try breaking the RAID array and seeing if Windows Setup can find the hard drives if they're just running as standard drives. If it does then quit setup, recreate the array and start again from scratch.
