So we are talking about another form of Vista, if that is all the difference you have found so far. Windows 7 gonna have to have something really super in it to make me buy it, like the new file system that was suppose to be in Vista.

Ya it looks like it is built on the Vista shell ATM.

I heard there will be no MinWin kernel nor WinFS (short for Windows Future Storage) in Windows 7 but who really knows how Windows 7 will evolve in the future year(s).

Since this build 6519 is a early M1 build & considering that Longhorn had 8/9 Milestones before becoming Vista, I'd say it is very very early to pass judgment on if Windows 7 will have anything else new, note there are a few other new buttons & whistles I haven't posted screen shots of yet.

Why don't you install this build of Windows 7, try it out & see what else is new for yourself question

I wonder what UI changes MS will make in Windows 7 but something tells me that what we see right now will be close to the final UI with maybe a few tweaks.

Actually, Windows 7 will most likely be built around MinWin ... it's just the one that leaked that doesn't have it wink

As regards WinFS, who knows ? It's currently being developed veeeeeerrrrryyyyyy ssslloooooowwwwwllllyyyyy as a separate product, and the timeslot when they'll *need* it in Windows is still a few years away (it'll be when 30 TB + hard drive storage volumes will become possible for Joe Average -- not just hard drive space, but actual partitions of that size and more), because the 32-bit NTFS will no longer be able to cope...

That would be great, I am looking forward to trying that out.

A few new buttons & whistles

The sidebar no longer has the shading against the outside side

The task bar has a popup instead of sliding over for show hidden icons

When a explorer window is full size it has the AERO transparent edges now instead of opaque black as in Vista

found on another site...
"As in the M1 R1, Win7 installer automatically creates an additional 500.0 MB partition before system partition. A user doesn’t have control on this. No idea on what for. The partition doesn’t appear in My Computer but you can see it in disk management."

I can see the drive in my My Computer and the files and folders if I unhide them via Folder options.

Mine doesn't show up as another partition as my hard drive is fully partitioned into 6 with various OS's installed on them.

I did a search & found my 12/20/2007 Boot folder in my XP OS at D:\

Along with a few others that Windows 7 changed the date on or installed them there..

Here is a screenshot of where my Windows 7 Boot folder ended up (note the 12/20/2007 dates of the W7 others too)

Now a “Smart Details” choice has been added to the Computer View menu in Windows 7

Here is a shot of a very cool tech forums home page & the window has widened ‘Padding’ borders

Full sized window again showing the Aero transparency (padding goes away) instead of a BLACK border as in Vista

Similar to old Longhorn bugs, wouldn't worry about it too much -- probably just temporary code ; although yes this is an example of why it's dangerous to install Alpha software on your rigs wink

Thank you for that Julian, that cleared that up for me thumbsup

-------------------------------------------------------------

Today I formatted away my Windows 7 Ultimate edition installation & installed the Windows 7 Starter edition to take a look around at that.
Here are a few screenshots

Welcome Center with the same 7 items as Ultimate.
The Get Started line is a bit different though.

The Control Panel has 5 less items as the Ultimate edition has

Windows 7 Starter edition wallpapers (same as in Vista Started edition)

Do you still have to go with the Dec 02, 2007 date and all that with that one
