I finally have enough hard drives to make a raid 0 array, and before i set it up i was wondering, would it be possible to split it up into 2 partitions, so that i could have both xp and vista installed on it?

if so, is there anything special i need to do other than partition it all with the windows disk?

Nope!

Well, you'll probably need the drivers for the Raid controller so that Windows Setup can see the drives but, other than that...

Simple, eh?

wow thats surprising,

reading the instructions for setting it up made it sound like my motherboard was special because it could boot from a raid array. mind you that was probably just nvidia trying to sound good.

Booting from RAID Arrays really is an everyday occurrence now. Servers have been able to do it since time immemorial and, with HDDs coming down in price and the advent of SATA technology, it's becoming more and more common in home environments, too.

hmm, i'm having a little trouble.

i made a floppy with the drivers required on, and booted to the windows disk, after pressing f6 and selecting both drivers required it finds the raid array.

it formats fine and checks it ok, but as soon as it tries to write files to the disk it says that it cant copy the drivers to the disk (nvraid and nvata.sys or something similar)

whats going wrong? surely if it reads them from the floppy initialy it cant be a problem with that, is it a problem with the drivers maybe?

Are the drivers on the root of the floppy...they should not be in in any folder? Try to find another set of drivers too as there may be some text windows doesn't like. By the way are you keeping the floppy in right though the install process?

i used the cd which came with the mobo, and used the "make disk function" so presumably its on the root of the floppy.

i did leave it in throughout the whole process, might it be because im using a slipstreamed sp3 disk?

i will try downloading the latest drivers from their website and see if it helps

mmm...it could be SP3 but unlikely though it may be a good idea to try SP2. If you get an error again try to write down what files Windows setup couldn't find. Maybe post a screenie of the files on the floppy. My Nvidia RAID floppies are buried way down somewhere but I'll scratch around for them if you don't succeed with the new drivers.

hmm, would i be better off using the jmicron raid controller or the nvidia raid controller?
