What are you using to make the image? Acronis True Image does permit writing the image to DVD but I don't know for sure it will call for a second and third or more DVD though. Acronis does allow for changing the compression ratio and I've used high compression successfully in the past smilenod

Yes, Acronis True Image will span multiple disks if needed. It's what I use and it works great for me. I have one image that took 3 disks.

To be honest with you I couldn't remember. I had to try it to find out, and yes the disks are bootable. You just have to put the right one in the tray (Volume 1).

I've used the disks to restore but always by booting into a working partition.
